How we find and verify family events
Last updated
In short: every local event on Little Outings is checked on the organizer's own website or calendar before it's listed. Each listing shows the date we checked it and links to that source. Past events are removed automatically. We never make up dates, prices or reviews. If something isn't stated by the organizer, we say so.
What we list and where it comes from
- Local family events (40 in our current dataset, from 28 official sources such as city, library, zoo, museum and farm websites). We record the title, venue, address, dates, hours, cost, age range and a short description, as stated on the official page.
- Ticketed shows from Ticketmaster's official Discovery API, filtered for family-friendly events. Adult-only, 21+ and nightlife events are excluded.
- Always-open places like parks, playgrounds, libraries, museums and zoos, from OpenStreetMap plus our own list of 55 Phoenix-area venues.
- Verified prices for 15 venues, copied from each venue's official pricing page with the date checked and a source link. Places without a verified price show a price level ($ to $$$), which is our estimate and is labeled that way.
- Weather forecasts from a public forecast service, used to suggest indoor options on hot or rainy weekends. The current provider and its credit are on our About page.
How a listing gets checked
- We find candidate events on official city, library, park, venue and organizer calendars. Research is assisted by AI tools.
- Each event is opened on its official page, and the date, time, cost and age details are copied from there. If the organizer doesn't state a cost, we show "Not stated" and don't guess.
- The listing stores the official link and the date we checked it, and both are shown on the page.
- Events stop appearing as soon as their last date passes. Pages refresh hourly.
- Listings are rechecked regularly, and corrections and removal requests are handled quickly.
What we don't do
- We don't publish fake reviews or ratings, and we don't invent details.
- We don't accept payment to change facts about an event. If we ever show paid placements, they'll be clearly labeled "Sponsored."
- We don't mass-produce pages. Our guides are a small set built only from listings we've checked, and a guide is hidden from search engines when it has too few upcoming listings.
Always confirm before you go
Organizers change times, sell out or cancel, especially around holidays and weather. Use the "Official page" link on each listing to confirm before you leave.
